The military style leather grip handle is 5 inches long. The blade is 1/8 inch Rigid Steel and 11&1/2 inches long. Overall Length is 16&1/2 inches. Weight is 25 Ounces. It is extremely well balanced. The blade is specially annealed high carbon steel hardened to Rockwell C47. It will not crack or chip even in sub-zero temperatures. The blade has a bonded florocarbon resin coating to prevent corrosion. The concave axe blade is convex ground for extreme strength and offers superior edge holding capabilities. The blade will cut wood up to 1&1/2 inches in diameter in a single stroke.
The Woodman's Pal was introduced to forestry professionals in 1941. It was also adopted by the U.S. Military as LC-14-B and was standard issue from the early part of World War II through Desert Storm. During the Vietnam War, it was designated the survival tool, type IV and was issued in air crew survival kits.
The 284 Premium Model Woodman’s Pal did not and still does not go unnoticed by the U.S. Military. The LC-14-B engraved on the knuckle guard was the official designation of a complete unit consisting of the 284 tool, the military spec. olive green canvas sheath, the two-grit round honing stone, and reprinted 1942 manuals. G.I.’s and the U.S. Army Signal Corp relied heavily on the Woodman’s Pal for land clearing operations.

The branch insignia contains two signal flags, with a center staff with flaming torch. The flags and the torch are symbolic of signaling or communications. The Latin words “Pro Patria Vigilans” means “Vigilance for Country”. - Heavyweight canvas with a zippered closure and two interior pockets.
